Tek screw and fixing replacement
Fixings are a small detail that stops a damper working. Screws driven through the casing can foul the blades or curtain, and missing or corroded fixings leave frames and joints loose. Both are straightforward to put right once someone has looked.
The defect nobody looks for
Tek screws secure ductwork joints, damper frames, retaining angles and access panels. On a correctly installed damper they sit clear of the moving parts.
In practice we regularly find screws driven straight through the damper casing, usually by a later trade fixing something to the duct without knowing what was inside it. The screw catches the blade or curtain and the damper can no longer close. From the outside the installation looks perfectly sound, and the fault only shows on a drop test.
We also find fixings missing altogether, spaced too widely, of the wrong type for the substrate, or corroded to the point they no longer hold, all of which leave joints and frames loose.

Putting the fixings right
Offending screws are removed and the damper operated to confirm the obstruction has gone. Where the casing has been damaged, we assess whether it can stay in service or needs replacing, and tell you which.
Missing and incorrect fixings are replaced with the correct type and spacing for the substrate and the application, in line with BESA DW/145 and the manufacturer's detail. The damper is then re-tested and the result recorded against its asset reference.
